In this blog post, I will take you behind the scenes of my content creation journey at Afro Nation-from how I planned my shots to what I actually captures, how I edited on the go and what I learned about growing your platforms through live events. Whether you are a creator, influencer or just cuious about the festival here are real tips you can use to level up your content game next time when you are in the middle of the vibe.
What is Afro Nation?
Have you ever imagined a space where you can dance, network, connect and make friends from every corner of the world? A space where the energy vibrates through your body and the energy is unmatched? That is Afro Nation
From soul-stirring Afrobeats to the bass heavy rhythm of Amapiano, Afro Nation is more than just a music festival - it´s a cultural experience. It is where style meets sound and black joy and excellence is on full display. It is a place where creatives like me can turn moments into content that lives long after the last beat drops.
This year I had the opportunity to attend Afro Nation 2025 in Portugal but I did not just go to dance but as a content creator and founder of Ayuk Studios. I took this opportunity to create, connect and grow my brand while enjoying what I love most: music, culture and storytelling.

📸 Planning Content Before The Festival
Creating great content at a festival does not just start at the festival - it starts before you even pack your bags. For Afro Nation, I knew i wanted to document my experience in a way that aligned with my brand and showed off my style, creative process and personality. A big thing for me was to also emjoy the vacation and live in the present- something many content creators struggle with. In the past I have been so caught up in the process of filming and editing and forgot to enjoy myself too. To be able to achieve both content creation and enjoying the holiday you have to be intentional about planning your trip.
1. Outfit Planning - Content Strategy
Let´s be real- your outfit is the first part of your content. It sets the tone for how you feel about yourself and the aesthetics of the visuals. I planned each look with both style and storytelling in mind, asking myself:
Does the outfit match the vibe of the day (beachy, high-energy, chilled)?
Will it stand out in the photos and videos?
Can I dance and move comfortably in it?
Do any of the artists have a signature color I want to match?
I chose colors that popped, pieces that reflected my personal style, and accessories that added personality without being too bulky or distracting. One thing I will say is, don´t be suprised if you see others wearing the same clothes as you. The way you wear and style it is what makes you unique. Also make sure to pack backup options, just in case the weather or vibe change.
2. Shot List: Having a Vision Without Over Planning
Before leaving for the festival you should create a shot list. This is basically a guide or mental checklist of content you want to capture, how and when. Below is an example of my shot list for content I wanted to capture for both long and short form videos.
- Arrival/Airport snaps
- Outfit transitions
- Behind-the-scenes getting ready
- Festival grounds walk-through
- Crowd energy/ interview style clips
- Dance clips / Artist clips
- Cute moments with friends
Having a plan helped me stay focus, but I kept it flexible enough to let things flow naturally. The best moments are often the unplanned ones. In my case an unplannned moment was when my friedn took over my camera and vlogged for the remaining of the festival. It brought a different vibe and perspective to the videos and I loved seeing the festival through his eyes.
Packing My Filming & Editing Essentials As a content creator, I knew I could not just rely on just one equipment for filming. I had my digital camera with 5 sd cards and 2 phones just in case. My canon g7x mark 2 for high quality vlog-style clips, Phone for quick snaps, tikok, & reels and a mini tripod for stable shots. Not forgetting 3 fully charged batteries for my camera so I didn´t have to worry about charging all night. Being prepared meant I could switch between documenting and living in the moment without stressing about equipment or storage.
Filmed by William Dallacorte 🎥 Creating Content During the Festival
Once Afro Nation officially kickes off, it was go time for both dancing and dosumenting. The key to capturing authentic content during a high-energy event like this is finding teh balance bewteen living in the moment and being behind the lens. Here is how i managed it:
🎉 Let the vibes lead the Content
Instead of forcing every moment to be "content worthy", I let the energy guide me. When the crowd was lit, i filmed it. When I felt cute in a particular light, I pulled out my camera. I stayed present but alert and ready to capture moments that felt natural and real. This made my content feel more organic and less staged.
TIP: sometimes a 5 second snap or one boOmerang is enough to tell a story.
Don´t overthink it!
💃🏾 Candid Over Perfect
Some of the best clips come from spontaneous moments-dancing with strangers, vibing to a DJ drop, or even a quick laugh during a snack break. These raw moments are what people connect with. Don´t chase perfection and document.
I also filmed different perspectives:
Me filming myself dancing (from camera)
Friends filming me (or I had handed them the camera)
Crowd reactions and panoramic views
This variety helped me keep my stories and reels interesting and dynamic.
🎞️Minimal Editing on the Spot
I would film clips thorugh out the day and review them in the morning while getting ready for the festival. It was overwhelming to be around so many people all day, have fun, and film while trying not to focus too much on the end result (the edited vidoes). I made some short clips for tiktok and instagram.
The programs I use for editing are CapCut, Canvas, Filmora 9 and sometimes iMovie, depending on the length of video, and editing style I envision. Let me know if you would like me to make detailed videos on how to use the different editing softwares.

Final Tips For Creating Content at a Festival Like Afro Nation
Plan your outfits and content ideas in advance
Have a flexible shot list - Know what you want to capture but stay open to spontaneous moments
Focus on quality, not quantity - it is better to capture fewer authentic moments than force constant content
Leverage different platforms - Snapchat for raw editing, Instagram for curated posts and TikTok for creative edits.
Engage with people - collaborations and crowd shots add variety and boost your reach.
Create first, edit later - do not waste a whole moment trying to perfect a single post in real time.
Stay present - the best content comes when you are truly enjoying yourself
✨Final Thoughts
Afro Naton 2025 was more than just a music festival - it was a creative playground. As a content creator I walked away with so much more than photos and videos. I gained new connections, new inspiration, and a deeper appreciation for the power of culture and community.
If you are planning to attend a festival like this, don´t just go as a spectator but as a storyteller. Whether you have a camera, a phone or just your voice, there is always something worth capturing.
